오지원은 대상의 움직임 속에 드러나는 에너지를 압축하여 회화로 풀어낸다. 이번 전시에서 작업 기록을 나열하여, 가공되지 않은 그 자체가 전시가 될 수 있다는 것을 보여준다.
Ji won Oh compresses the energy she feels from various movements into her paintings. In this exhibition she displays the records of her practice to show how the raw material itself could become one of the elements in an exhibition.
살아있는 것들은 변화하면서 움직임이 동반한다. 걸어가고, 뛰어가고, 자라고, 바람에 흔들려지거나 색이 변하는 것처럼 파동(wave)은 어떤 한 곳의 에너지가 흔들림을 통해 다른 곳으로 전달되어 나가는 것을 말한다. 움직이고 살아있는 모든 것들은 저마다 파동을 갖고 있다. 시간의 흐르면서 색이 변할 때 빛이 사물에 퍼져가는 것이 파동의 움직임과 비슷하다 여겼다. 무언가를 그릴 때 그것이 나타내고자 하는 에너지를 선택하여 파동의 여러 순간을 압축하여 그림에 고착하는 것이 나의 방식이다. 물에 돌을 던졌을 때 물이 울렁거리는 시각적 표현으로 공간의 활기 (에너지)를 평면에 담아냈다. 작품을 접하는 관객들에게 작품 속의 활기가 그들에 파동처럼 전달이 되기를 바라면서.
All living things are accompanied by some sort of movement in the process of transition. Just like other forms of movement or even changing color, a wave refers to the transfer of energy from one place to another. Hence it can be said every living things have their own wave. As the color changes in time, shades of light spreads out and it almost seems like a movement of the wave. When I draw, I choose the energy or the wave to be expressed and compress them into one fixed picture. I aim to express the energy of the space visually just like how water slops when a stone is thrown into it. In doing so, I hope the energy of the painting can be conveyed to the viewers like a wave.
