작업의 증거는 신진작가들의 끊임없는 연구와 지지를 위해 만들어진 독립적인 창작자들의 모임입니다.
다양한 시각으로 작품을 접근하고 논의하는 것을 지향하며, 이러한 활동들을 통해 단체를 넘어 개인의 역량까지 성장하는 것을 목표로 하고 있습니다. 11명의 작업의 증거 작가들은 각각 서울, 제주도에서 활발하게 활동하고 있으며 이러한 움직임을 비대면 모임을 통해 공유하고 있습니다. 2021년에는 UNIST와 협력하여 실시간 작업과정 송출을 할 수 있는 Artist canvas 플랫폼을 통해 한 달간 <캔버스의 증거> 프로젝트를 진행하였습니다.작업의 증거 공식 1기를 매듭 지으며 5월 21일~25일까지 <작업의증거>라는 주제를 가지고 아트스페이스 이색에서 전시를 진행합니다
The Evidence of the Art [t.e.a] is created by a group of independent artists for continuous research in support of emerging artists.We discuss art practice from various perspectives and support the development of individual practice.The eleven artists based in both Seoul and Jeju are actively sharing the process via online meetings.
In 2021, we had a one-month collaboration project <The Evidence of the Canvas> with UNIST. The Artist canvas platform was provided for artists to live stream their studio practice.The Evidence of the Art #1 will be wrapped up with an exhibition in ART SPACE I:SAEK with the same title from May 19th to 25th.
코로나 19로 인해 뉴노멀이 되어버린 비대면사회는 작가들에게 네트워킹과 전시 기회를 상실시켰다. 특히 코로나로 인한 기회의 상실은 작가들(특히 인프라가 덜 갖추어진 청년작가들)에게 부담을 가중시켰다. 이에 작업의 증거에서는 온라인 스터디 형식을 통해 코로나로 고립된 작가들이 심리적으로 지지하고 연대할 수 있는 연결지점을 만들었다. 청년작가들이 작품활동중 겪는 변화를 기록으로 남겨 과정자체를 존중하는 시도는 청년작가들의 작업단절을 막고 지속가능한 작가생활을 할 수 있도록 지지한다. 본 전시에는 작업의 증거 스터디에서 연구되고 지지했던 지난 5개월간의 과정을 보여준다. 물리적 거리가 제한되는 언택트시대에 작가들이 웹으로나마 서로를 연대하고 지지하며 작업을 진행해 나간다.
과정은 작업물을 만드는 동안의 부산물이 아니라 작가의 작품을 좀 더 명확히 이해할 수 있는 수단이기도 하다. 하지만 미술이 가진 신비주의는 과정을 베일에 감추어두곤 했다. 일반적으로 관람자가 볼 수 있는 작품들은 완결성을 띄는 닫힌 구조이기 때문에 과정이 드러나지 않았던 것이다. 이는 작품으로 하여금 근대적인 시선의 작용(관람자가 작업을 일방적으로 응시하게 되는)을 만들어낸다. 그렇다면 과정을 드러내는 것은 작가의 시도, 즉 작업을 수행하며 수반되는 성공과 좌절등이 모두 포함되어 있는 가능성의 군집이라 볼 수 있다. 과정의 개방은 관람자와 작품간의 대화가 이루어질 수 있게 한다. 결국 과정을 드러내는 행위는 예술이 지닌 신비주의를 해제시키고 작가의 모든 행위를 하나의 가치로서 존중하는 경계확장을 일으킨다
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the contactless society has become the new-normal which made it hard for us artists to find any exhibition or networking opportunities. The emerging artists, in particular, are subject to this phenomenon. The Evidence of the Art encourages isolated artists to support each other through online meetings. We aim to put emphasis on the art-making process by making a thorough record of the transition each artist undergoes. By doing so, we support young artist's to lead sustainable art practice and prevent alienation. In this exhibition, we present the development of artworks in the last five months in The Evidence of the Art. We make active use of virtual meetings to support each other regardless of space and time in this contactless society.
The art-making process is not a mere by-product of the finished work but means to understand the work better. Still, Art is often mysticised and the process, disregarded. There is certain degree of perfection demanded on the artworks exposed to the public. This results in one-way communication where the viewers remain as the bystanders. The art-making process includes all the possibilities of being an art. Therefore, disclosing the process allows dialogues between the viewer and the artwork to take place. This would eventually bring about removal of mysticism in art and recognition on artist's action itself.
